Thursday, 9 November 2017
5.30 – 7.30 PM
Arts West Research Lounge, Arts West Building 5th Floor – The University of Melbourne
Join Indonesian writer and academic Intan Paramaditha as she engages in a dialogue with Leila S. Chudori, one of Indonesia’s most senior journalists and respected writers. Together they will discuss Chudori’s first novel, the multiple award-winning Pulang (Home) on Indonesian exiles, and the recent publication of Laut Bercerita (The Sea Speaks His Name), on the loss felt by families and friends of disappeared activists. Chudori will reflect on the literary representation of the legacy of historical violence. In addition, their conversation will also touch upon broader themes including the position of women in Indonesian literature, especially in a context of rising conservatism and the persecution of minorities.
