Unpredictability of the Journey. A conversation with Intan Paramaditha

A conversation with Intan Paramaditha

Host: Marianna Lis

Not every migration is caused by a need, nor is it unpleasant. Sometimes we decide to leave because we feel bad in our family home or simply because we need to change our surroundings. Some need to constantly be on the move to find inner peace. Intan Paramaditha tells the story of wandering, which is not due to the necessity, but a choice – not an obvious one, but a choice nonetheless. To embark on the journey, one needs self-awareness, courage and determination. Intan's novel was built in such a way as to evoke a sense of agency in readers in an engaging way. Reading it is supposed to be an adventure that can completely change the way we think about ourselves and reality. And the best part is that it is impossible to predict (either in literature or in life) how it will all end.

Free tickets will be available for download from October 16, 2023 on the KBF:BILETY and KBF: PLUS application.

28 October, at 20:00 AST, Straszewskiego 21-22

Intan Paramaditha: The Wandering, Sydney Writers' Festival 2020

The Wandering at Sydney Writers’ Festival: “An ingeniously crafted novel by award-winning writer Intan Paramaditha, The Wandering is a literal choose-your-own-adventure story. It explores the highs and lows of global nomadism, the politics and privileges of travel and desire, and the freedoms and limitations of the choices we make. Depending on which pages you turn to, you could become a tourist or an undocumented migrant, a mother or a murderer, as you meet many other travellers with stories to tell. Shirley Le talks with Intan about an electrifying novel that turns the traditional adventure story on its head.”
